Match report
Thrilling Tie to start Season
Chignall won the toss and elected to field on a bright sunny day, however with key openers away or delayed by work Burnham had to improvise with their batting order.
With the early loss of Glen in the first over Ed King was joined at the crease by Greg Campion, despite the sunny conditions batting was difficult and the scoring was slow, it took Greg 8 overs before scoring his first run and after 16 overs Burnham had 22 on the board before Ed King fell for 11.After a brief spell at the wicket for debut player Matt Willis, Greg was joined at the wicket by David May and a 50 partnership was made between them for the 4th wicket before Greg fell in the 36th over trying to increase the scoring rate for a league best of 34, David continued batting to the end of the innings with an unbeaten 29, Burnham ended up with 107 for 5 in 40 overs.
We were happy with the score as we had used up all the overs and felt the score was bigger that it seems with the slow pitch and outfield.
In reply Chignall equally found the scoring difficult with the evergreen Roger Perrin accurate as ever and finding nice swing produced an accurate spell of 9-4-8-2, supported by Matt Willis providing some welcome pace bowling for the seconds kept Burnham in the game. However it was the introduction of Joe Green 6-1-27-3 and David May 9-2-16-2 supported by fine catching from Glen Bayliss, Greg Campion and Matt Willis reduced Chignall to 66-6 it seemed that Burnham was in control, however Chignall fought back and despite a couple of wickets for Greg Campion 7-0-26-2, Chignall managed to draw level, the the reintroduction of Matt back into the attack produced a off stump yorker to remove the batsmans off stump to ensure that honours were even on the day.
