SPORTS WIN PROMOTION

17 Aug 2014

Ingatestone 253 all out (40 overs)
Burnham Sports 254-9 (49.3 overs)
Burnham won by one wicket
Burnham Sports gained promotion to the Premier League with a dramatic one wicket win over Ingatestone with three balls to spare.
Sports' last-wicket pair of Jack Silvester (60 not out) and Andy Stephens (24 not out) put on an unbroken stand of 63 in 56 balls to clinch the spoils to leave Ingatestone, who had dictated for virtually the whole game, deflated.
Robin Whittaker (47) and Joel Whittaker (31) had earlier shared in a fifth-wicket stand of 63 for Burnham but it looked like being in vain as the visiting side, chasing 254 to win, subsided to 135-7 and then 193-9.
Earlier, Ingatestone had won the toss and batted first - smashing their way to 233-2 in the 35th over thanks to the efforts of Jeater (111) and Kendall (49).
Remarkably, they then lost eight wickets for 20 runs in under six overs, giving Burnham, who looked down and out, five extra precious overs to reach their target,
Robin Whittaker (five for 42) and Joel Whittaker (four for 45) did the damage in what proved an astonoshing turning point.
