Burnham Sports CC 1st XI v Terling 1st on Sat 01 Jun 2019 at 1pm
Burnham Sports CC Won By 7 Wickets
Match report
Burnham Sports Cricket Club is flying high after another set of excellent results this weekend. The first XI stretched their unbeaten run to four games with a convincing win at home against Terling. Meanwhile, the seconds stretched their advantage at the top of the T Rippon Division 8 as they beat second placed Broomfield.
The first team lost the toss and were asked to bowl first by Terling. Once again they took early wickets thanks to Robin Whittaker (10-2-23-1) and Matthew Mears (9-1-30-1). O. Dawson dug in for Terling on his way to a hard-fought 76 as Burnham’s bowlers continued to bowl excellent line and lengths.
Left-arm spinners David Bridge (10-2-33-2) and Tom Silvester (10-3-20-1) bowled immaculately and stopped Terling’s middle order from scoring, before Joel Whittaker claimed two wickets at the death to all but finish the innings. Dawson was one of two run-outs claimed by Sports as the visitors could only amass 147-9 off their 45 overs, frustrating Burnham’s hunt for the final wicket.
In reply, Bridge and Paul Green opened the batting for Sports and got off to a swift start, punishing Terling’s bowlers with early boundaries. The pair put on 59 for the opening wicket before Green was dismissed on 34. Bridge went on to make 37 and shared a partnership with Chris Laird (27) before Robin Whittaker (26*) and Jamie Hamilton (18*) saw Sports cruise to a comfortable victory by 7 wickets and with 10 overs to spare.
The win keeps the 1st XI in 4th place with four wins from their opening five games in the highly competitive T Rippon Division Two. Next week, they travel to Woodham Mortimer.
