High Roding 1st v Burnham Sports CC 1st XI on Sat 25 May 2019 at 1pm
Burnham Sports CC Won By 83 Runs
Match report
It was another excellent weekend for Burnham Sports Cricket Club as both teams won their respective games on Saturday.
The first XI travelled to High Roding, on the back of two consecutive victories, and were indebted to a standout performance by all-rounder Jack Silvester. Having won the toss and electing to bat first, Sports struggled at first to adapt to the conditions, and were reduced to 112-6. Roding’s Morley-Jacob (9.3-2-37-4) and Gallop (10-2-20-3) claimed early wickets for the home side.
Silvester, who came to the crease at number seven, showed great composure to stabilise the innings for Sports as he scored 48, forming a valuable partnership with Joel Whittaker, who scored 34. Their efforts helped Burnham to a final total of 187 all out, having lost the final wicket in the last over of their innings.
In defence of their total, Burnham got off to the perfect start, striking immediately in the second innings with an early run out by Silvester.
Robin Whittaker and Matthew Mears piled the pressure on the home side as they both got early wickets to leave High Roding 6-3.
Gilfrin (23) and J Clarke (37) offered resistance for Roding in the middle overs but an accurate spell from David Bridge (8.1-0-21-4) ensured Burnham took wickets at regular intervals to keep the game in their favour.
Silvester came into the attack and immediately got a wicket, bowling Gilfrin with his first ball. He produced the same delivery twice more to all but finish off the tail before Bridge claimed the final wicket to seal an 83 run win as High Roding were bowled out for 104.
The win moves Sports up to 3rd in T-Rippon Division Two. Next week they face Terling at home.
