Match report For the fourth week in a row, the first XI suffered another heavy defeat, this time against South Weald in T-Rippon Division One at Millfields on Saturday.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, Sports were very optimistic and hoped to take advantage of good batting conditions. All went well at first, with the opening pair of Neil Saunders (22) and Jack Silvester (34) posting a solid partnership. However, when they were both bowled by Rowling, who went on to take five wickets for only 15 runs, it was a similar story to previous weeks as the rest of the order collapsed. Only Tom Silvester offered some resistance with 17 not out to help Sports reach a first innings total of just 97.
In reply, South Weald made light work of chasing down Sports’ total as Lingala (41), Dennis (21) and Higgins (17 not out), who hit the winning run, saw the visitors reach 98 for the loss of 3 wickets after just 22 overs.
Despite some heavy losses, Sports are still fourth in the league, but their promotion hopes have faded. However, their place in the Division is virtually guaranteed for next year.
Next week, the team travel to Rainham, hoping to get back to their winning ways.
