Match report A five wicket haul by Tom Silvester ensured Burnham Sports 1st XI recorded back-to-back victories for the first time this season, as they comfortably beat South Weald by 81 runs in their Division One meeting in Brentwood.
Silvester was able to find purchase on what was an indifferent pitch and the South Weald batsmen could not handle the bounce and turn from his bowling. He went on to claim five wickets for Sports and forced Lingala, who was looking dangerous on 25, into a mistake and he was sharply stumped by wicket keeper Dominic Whittaker.
Captain Joel Whittaker and in form Paul Green also took important wickets, claiming two each, after Robin Whittaker (1 for 14) had earlier set the tone for Sports with a wicket from the first ball of the South Weald reply. Lingala and Watson (38) were the only notable scorers for South Weald, as they became the fifth team to be bowled out by Burnham this season. They were all out for just 111 in reply.
Earlier, after being sent in to bat, Sports initially looked in trouble after losing two early wickets, Hull and Harle both making use of the pitch to strike for the home side. However, Sports rebuilt their innings as Jamie Hamilton (44), David Bridge (33) and Robin Whittaker (35) drove Sports towards a competitive score. Burnham were eventually dismissed for 192 in the final over of the innings, with Rowling (3 for 42) the most effective South Weald bowler.
The win means Sports are now in 3rd place in Division One.
