Burnham Sports CC 1st XI v Springfield 2nd on Sat 28 May 2016 at 13:00
Burnham Sports CC Won by 67 runs

Match report Burnham Sports have their bowlers to thank as they got back to winning ways on Saturday, after they beat Springfield 2nd XI by 67 runs on Saturday in their T-Rippon Division One clash at Millfields.
Captain Joel Whittaker, who is in a good spell of form after his five-wicket haul against Ingatestone two weeks ago, led the way for Sports as he claimed four wickets, all of which occurring within his opening three overs. Spinners Tom Silvester (3 for 34) and Paul Green (2 for 15) were also effective at pegging the visitors back. Silvester claimed the final Springfield wicket, with the aid of a composed catch by Brian Leech.
The Springfield innings never really looked like gathering any momentum. Sheryar (36) and Tyler (26) offered resistance, but once they were dismissed the innings collapsed and the visitors were eventually bowled out for 147.
Incredibly, Sports have now bowled out each of the four teams they have played against so far this campaign – 40 wickets in total – establishing them as the best bowling side in the division so far.
After the game, Whittaker commented, “I’m so pleased with the way our bowlers have approached every game so far this season. They have tried to express themselves but have also shown a great deal of discipline and composure to keep putting it in the right areas. Credit must also go to our fielders, they have shown a vast improvement over last season, and our catching especially has greatly improved. I hope we can keep this level of performance for the rest of the season.
Earlier, after being sent in to bat, Jamie Hamilton and David Bridge drove Sports on to a competitive score of 214. Hamilton (46) and Bridge (38) shared a 75 run partnership to put the home side firmly in control of the game. After their dismissals, a quick-fire 33 from Joel Whittaker saw Burnham pass the 200 mark for the first time this season. Sports eventually finished on a competitive total of 214 for 8 after their 45 overs.
“Our batting was much better today,” said Whittaker. “After last week’s capitulation at Canvey we needed to show more fight this week, and we responded perfectly. It’s now about finding consistency and reaching these big scores needed to win games.”
