Burnham Sports CC 2nd XI v Woodham Mortimer 2nd on Sat 04 Jun 2016 at 1pm
Burnham Sports CC Won By 191 runs
Match report
Ed King stole the show again for Burnham Sports 2nd XI as he doubled up on his century last week against East Hanningfield with a second consecutive century, driving the team to a comprehensive 191 run win against Woodham Mortimer in their T-Rippon Division 8 clash at Millfields on Saturday.
King, who last week made his century with a single off the final ball of the game, reached the landmark in far more dramatic fashion this time as he thumped what was his fourth six after being stuck on 99 to reach three figures again. He then went on to hit another boundary in the final over to finish the innings unbeaten on 109.
After the game, second XI captain Jack Shipton said of King’s achievement, “It’s completely unbelievable, last week Ed was phenomenal in getting his ton, but to do it again just a week later shows what a talent Ed really is and has been for the club over so many years. I certainly hope he can keep this run going.”
The game itself was in many ways similar to the previous win against East Hanningfield. King, again, arrived at the crease earlier than expected, but was, again, well supported on his path to three figures by Mike Jenkins (38) and Shipton (48). Grant Smith also got in on the act with a quick-fire 31 before being bowled by Preston (2 for 46), Woodham Mortimer’s best bowler on the day. Sports ended up on a massive 252 for 5 after 45 overs.
In reply, Woodham Mortimer simply had no answer to what was a strong bowling attack; David May (4 for 35) and Roger Perrin (3 for 22) were both clinically ruthless as they wiped out the visitors’ top order. Greg Campion also continued his good start to the season with two wickets of his own and the final wicket was claimed by youngster Joe Green (1 for 1). Only three Woodham Mortimer batsmen reached double figures, Coulson’s top score of 15 highlighting how difficult the visitors found it. Mortimer were eventually all out for 61 after 23 overs.
