Match report
Springfield Suffer Crash of Ash by Seconds
With dark sky all around Burnham lost the toss and unsurprisingly put in by Springfield
However they did not reckon on the opening partnership of 110 by Paul Green and J T Harris who put Springfield bowling to the sword. Paul returning to cricket after an illness hit a magnificent 114 not out held the innings together perfectly batting the entire innings and allowing the freedom for J T Harris (64) to express himself in his usual manner hitting his first fifty this season.
In a little as the second over Springfield were on the back foot with the field spread far and wide by the opening pair and even when JT departed quickly followed by Rob Layzell, Neil Wade took up the aggressive partner role hitting a superb 95 with his trademark hook shot and down on one knee slog sweep much in evidence all the time supported by Paul gracefully cover driving the Springfield bowlers they shared a partnership of 174 for the 3rd wicket probably a record for the seconds, Neil just failed getting his deserved century in the last over but the seconds amassed 301 again probably another record for the seconds as no one has any recollections of the seconds hitting 300 (to be confirmed by Finbar).
In reply Springfield started aggressively and had 100 on the board by the 16th over despite JT Removing one of the openers, then a change of bowling was required to slow things down both Brian Leech 12-1-41-3 kept a tight line bowling three and Greg Campion 9.1-6-8-5 finding some nice turn kept a tight line bowling all 5 including 3 wicket maidens on the trot just left Chris Rich to take the last wicket to have the unusual sight in the scorebook of 10 Bowled Springfield were all out for 136 winning by 165 Runs
Next week the Seconds (and some Firsts) take on Southend & EMT
