Burnham Sports CC Won by 40 Runs
Match report
Headlines
Seconds hit 5 sixes in their innings then Jack rip out middle order and bags 6 wickets to defeat Chignall by 40 Runs.
Burnham lost the toss and unsurprisingly put in with conditions likely to be affected by rain.
Simsy and the Chief opened the innings and with the usual steady pace set by the Chief, Burnham had 32 on the board within 4 overs with the Chief depositing the Chignall bowlers for a brace of sixes, however it couldn't last with the Chief cleaned bowled for a breezy 27 we then had a quiet period between the two Steve's when the weather intervened (at least 5 times during the match). Despite this the appearance of Ed was "Six first ball, bowled next ball" too brief a partnership of over 50 between Jack Silvester (30) and Maisy (32) soon blossomed then something quite remarkable happened 2 quick sixes by Maisy one down at cow corner then a majestic "straight six with pose" had us all purring with delight in the pavilion, it was all nicely rounded off with a 15 not out by Roger to give Burnham a very respectable 153 for 8 off 37 overs.
In reply Chignall made steady progress but Roger and Maisy still kept them to 3 an over and after 24 overs Chignall were 82 for 2 having Maisy removing both openers, however the real game changer was Jack's spell of 5-2-13-6 totally devastating Chignall's middle order full and straight 4 bowled and to Chignall's credit 2 LBW's supported by Greg 2-16 reduced Chignall from 82 for 2 to 113 all out.
Man of Match Jack Silvester.
Next week the seconds play away at Wickham
