Rankins 1's v Burnham Sports CC 1st XI on Sat 07 Jun 2014 at 1.30
Burnham Sports CC Won by 8 WICKETS

Match report Robin Whittaker was again in destructive form as dominant Burnham Sports thumped Rankins by eight wickets to consolidate top place in the Mid-Essex League first division.
Whittaker grabbed five for 33 as Rankins were dismissed for 115, a tally that Sports cruised past with bundles of time to spare. The opening bowler’s exploits came just a month after he had bagged six wickets in a similarly comprehensive defeat of Great Totham.
To cap an excellent weekend for the club, Burnham’s 2nd XI were also commanding winners - bating Old Chelmsfordians 3rd XI by nine wickets in their division nine encounter.
It has been ten years since Sports’ solitary season in the Premier League but after winning four of their five games in emphatic fashion, they are starting to look realistic promotion contenders.
Whittaker, for one, would not be out of place in the highest of the 13 divisions that make-up the league.
Bowling with his usual pace and accuracy, he sent back four Rankins’ top-order batsmen in rapid succession as the home side, put into bat on a humid day, collapsed to 18 for five.
The sixth-wicket pair of Warren (34) and Holyland (31) did their best to recover the damage before both were undone by Joel Whittaker, older brother of Robin.
Joel finished with three for 31, with Rankins squandering a third of their allotted 45 overs.
Sports lost a couple of early wickets themselves after tea but it made little difference, with the third-wicket pair of Sayeid Ahmed (49 not out) and Grant Smith (45 not out) enjoying themselves before the winning runs were achieved.
“Things are going well but we are only a third of the way through the season and there’s a long way to go,” James Hamilton, Burnham’s captain said. “Robin is bowling with great rhythm and getting the rewards he deserves.”
Sports look like being unchanged for their home match against Ingatestone (start 1.30pm) this Saturday.
Meanwhile, Burnham’s 2nd XI were taking even less time to see off the Old Boys.
Brian Leech (12-2-18-3) and Greg Campion (8-0-24-3) left the visiting team reeling after JT Harris (7.3-1-17-2) and Roger Perrin (12-1-32-1) had made early inroads.
Openers Harris (32) and Steve Sims (33 not out) then put on 53 in ten overs before Neil Wade (20 not out) quickly finished things off by the eighteenth over.
Burnham’s 2nd XI play Great Burstead & East Hanningfield at Barry Hearn's lovely ground this weekend.
ends.
