Burnham Sports CC 1st XI v Great Totham on Sat 10 May 2014 at 1.30
Burnham Sports CC Won by 180 runs

Match report Robin Whittaker produced a sensational six-wicket spell as Burnham Sports humiliated Great Totham in their opening league fixture.
Whittaker bagged his haul in the space of just 16 balls as Totham, chasing 211 to win, were bundled out out for just 30 in the T.Rippon Mid-Essex League first division fixture.
The strike bowler, finding a great rhythm and taking full advantage of a strong wind behind him, looked on course to take all ten wickets after single-handedly reducing the visiting team to 18 for six.
At that stage, he had bowled four of his opponents, three of whom had their middle stump knocked out of the ground, with the other pair being leg-before and superbly caught behind by Dominic Whittaker, his older brother.
However, Fuad Ahmed then got in on the act. He claimed the last four wickets in a similarly destructive ten-ball burst.
Whittaker, who finished with personal best figures of 7-2-14-6, said: “The wind was a help and my early yorkers paid dividends, so that’s what I concentrated on bowling.
“After taking the first six wickets, the boys were rooting for me to get all ten but Fuad deserved his share. He was bowling into the wind and that was a thankless task.”
Earlier, Fuad and Whittaker had played their part with the bat as Burnham, put into bat, compiled 210 for six from their allotted 41 overs in a rain-affected game.
The former hit a fluent 35, while the latter made 46 and shared in a crucial 109-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Jamie Hamilton.
Whittaker was eventually stumped but Hamilton, the skipper, ended 71 not out, the eighth time he has made an unbeaten fifty in league cricket. He hit nine fours and a six.
Meanwhile, Jack Silvester was inspiring Burnham’s 2nd XI to an exciting 40-run win over Chignal in division nine.
Silvester, rested from the 1st XI because of a foot injury, grabbed six for 13 from only five overs as Chignal, set 154 to win in a match reduced to 37 overs each, were dismissed for 113. He was rewarded for bowling straight - four of his victims being bowled, with the other pair LBW.
The youngster’s match-winning exploits came after David May had dislodged the opening pair of Porter (32) and Cant (26). All-rounder Jack also took a catch, having earlier made 30 in Burnham’s tally of 152 for eight.
May top-scored with 32, delighting his team-mates with a couple of rare sixes. Rob Layzell also contributed a rapid 27.
This Saturday, the 1st XI play at home to Bentley (start 1.30pm), while the 2nd XI travel to Wickham.
On Sunday, the club will begin holding weekly nets at the ground between 11am and 1pm. Anyone interested in playing cricket, aged 12 and upwards, is welcome to join in. Equipment can be provided.
