Ingatestone v Burnham Sports CC 1st XI on Sat 18 May 2013 at 1.30
Burnham Sports CC Won by 26 runs

Match report Grant Smith provided the inspiration as Burnham Sports broke their duck for the season with a battling 26-run win away to Ingatestone.
Smith has been Burnham’s most prolific batsman in the past decade - he has accumulated 3,439 runs in league matches since 2004 - and, having finished last season in great form, has picked up from where he left off.
His latest effort - a fluent 69 that included a six and ten fours - enabled Sports to reach 183 for nine after batting first in their latest T.Rippon Mid-Essex League first division fixture.
His fifth-wicket partnership of 58 with Neil Saunders fwas pivotal after Paul Green (32), deputising as captain for the absent Jamie Hamilton, and Sayeid Ahmed (24) had put on 50 for the second wicket.
Pudney (four for 37) proved typically potent for Ingatestone, while Bonnington (12-4-25-1) also gave little away.
Sports had lost their first two league fixtures but their determination to make up lost ground was immediately evident as Joel Whittaker, in the gully, and Green, at first slip, took superb catches in the seventh over off the bowling of Robin Whittaker.
The accurate David May (12-4-29-2) grabbed deservedly grabbed the next two wickets before the dependable Brian Leech (two for 27) got in on the act.
Jeater (61) threatened to spoil Burnham’s party but the excellent Robin Whittaker (11-2-33-3) returned to dismiss him - opening the door for Joel, his older brother, to wrap up victory with three wickets in five balls.
This Saturday, Sports have a tough home match at home to Little Baddow, who are led by Dave Lucy, a former long-time player for the club.
Burnham’s 2nd XI entertained Great Wakering 1st XI, the early Division Eight pacesetters, and put up a determined display before losing by two wickets.
Put into bat, Sports cobbled together a respectable 181 for seven. Steve Rees-Evans made a personal best of 45, with Andy Stephens (40) and Ed King (29) also making handy contributions.
Simpson, an attacking 6ft 4in left-hander, thumped 68 to give Wakering the initiative after tea but when he departed, giving Roger Perrin a third wicket, the match took on a different complexion.
Greg Campion, Burnham’s captain, found an excellent rhythm but his haul of three for 16, from nine overs, eventually proved in vain. The match also featured a first league wicket for Dennis Silvester courtesy of a catch behind the wicket by Neil Wade, who again impressed with his glove work.
This Saturday, the 2nd XI play away to Southend-based Trojans.
ends.
