Match report After a challenging season, Burnham 2nd's went into the final game of their league campaign requiring just two points against promotion chasing Great Wakering to secure safety from relegation. On a hard, fast track Great Wakering won the toss and batted first. The Wakering openers got off to a fast start being severe on the bowling. With the pair approaching a century opening partnership Roger Perrin (11-1-49-3) removed Cooper for 27, it wasn't long before Perrin sent the other opener Simpson was sent back to the pavilion making a quick 61. Skipper David May brought on leg spinner Greg Campion (7-2-14-1) and medium pacer Brian Leech (7-0-32-3) this proved to be a game changer as both slowed the run rate and took vital wickets, backed up by two sharp run outs by Roger Perrin & Sayeid Ahmed. Great Wakering were eventually bowled out for 172 off 37 overs, 80 runs short of where they would have hoped to have been after the start they made.
In Reply Burnham's openers Steve Sims & Grant Smith attacked the bowling from the off putting on 109 for the first wicket, Sims making 37. Sayeid Ahmed & Smith reached the target in just 30 overs. Sayeid finished 30 not out & the prolific Grant Smith 84 not out. Smith finished the season having accumulated 338 runs in just 5 innings at an average of 112.67. The win leaves Burnham 2nd's finishing 6th in the league a respective position considering being in the bottom two for long parts of the season.
