Match report Burnham Sports finished their cricket season with a flourish - the 1st XI and 2nd XI both signing off with notable victories.
The 1st XI entertained Rettendon in T.Rippon Mid-Essex League Division One and won by 14 runs, in the process avenging a one-wicket defeat in the reverse fixture.
Their prospects of doing that had looked bleak as they crumbled to 65 for eight after batting first. That would have been even worse had Fuad Ahmed (26) and his older brother, Jalal, not put on 39 for the third wicket.
However, the ninth-wicket pair of Ali Allchin and Neil Saunders put on what proved to be a match-winning stand of 47.
Saunders, batting at 10 and standing in as captain for the ill Andy Stephens, was undefeated on 28 at the finish - his team finishing up with 118 to defend.
That modest tally still seemed unlikely to prove enough but Saunders followed up his batting exploits by inviting Hamilton, an off-spinner, to open the bowling.
It proved a masterstroke, Hamilton grabbing a wicket with his first ball and going on to finish with figures of 12-4-29-5.
His efforts caused Rettendon to stumble from 38 for one to 76 for seven, but when the visiting team reached 104 without further loss, it seemed they might sneak another narrow success.
However, Jalal (two for 14) had the final say after Fuad (two for 15) had dismissed the dangerous Huntingdon without scoring. Remarkably, he was one of eight batsmen in the game dismissed without score.
Victory enabled Sports to finish sixth in the table after a disjointed, rain-ruined campaign. Their opponents next season will include Great Totham and Little Baddow - who were relegated from the Premier League - plus Thurrock and Herongate, who won promotion from Division Two.
Meanwhile, Burnham's rejuvenated 2nd XI were winning by nine wickets away to Great Wakering in Division Eight.
