Burnham Sports CC 1st XI v Writtle on Sat 02 Jun 2012 at 12.30pm
Burnham Sports CC Won by two wickets

Match report Joel Whittaker produced his best bowling performance as Burnham Sports continued their fine early-season form with a tense two-wicket win over Writtle.
Whittaker claimed six for 48 as Writtle, put into bat, laboured to 155 for eight from their allotted 45 overs in the T.Rippon Mid-Essex League first division fixture.
The medium pacer, better known for his batting exploits over the years, which have included a club record innings of 162, had never previously enjoyed a five-wicket haul. He claimed a victim with the opening ball of his over 12-over spell, though, and continued to be rewarded for his accuracy.
For good measure, Whittaker then hit a fluent 31, an innings that included a six and five fours, as Sports edged home with just over four overs to spare.
"I got into a good rhythm and felt like I could have bowled all day," Whittaker said. "I'm not sure I deserved six wickets, but I guess it makes up for the days when the luck does not go your way.
"Batting wise, I dropped down the order a bit and was thoroughly enjoying myself, although I'd have been angry had we not won because the shot I got out to was not the best."
Joel's younger brothers, Dominic and Robin, played their part in what was a superb day for the family.
Dominic was typically agile in his role as wicket-keeper - he has conceded just one bye all season - and top-scored with a vital innings of 33. Meanwhile, Robin held onto three hard-hit catches and hit the winning runs on his way to a composed innings of 15 not out.
Robin came to the wicket with his team 132 for eight and in danger of throwing away a game that they had dominated for long periods. However, in similar circumstances to the previous week, Neil Saunders dug in and, with the help of Whittaker Jr, guided Sports home.
Earlier in the day, Burnham had gained the initiative with another solid display of bowling and fielding.
Joel took the plaudits but Ali Allchin (11-3-22-0), off-spinner Jamie Hamilton (12-1-40-2) and Robin (10-1-41-0) also kept the pressure on.
Meanwhile, Burnham's 2nd XI were suffering a four-wicket reverse to Old Chelmsfordians 3rd XI in division eight.
Put into bat, Sports stumbled to 95 all out. Simon Turnnidge (21), Fuad Ahmed (16) and Ed King (14) all made starts but, disappointingly, nobody else in the team could manage double figures.
Roger Perrin (12-1-22-3) and skipper David May (7-1-11-2) gave Sports something to cheer but the home team eventually reachjed their target, albeit it took them until the 39th over.
This Saturday, the 1st XI travel to Stock, while the 2nd XI entertain Eastwood (start 1.30pm). On Sunday, Sports have a Warsop League fixture at Hatfield Peverel.
