Burnham Sports CC 2nd XI v Herongate on Sat 13 Aug 2011 at 1.30pm
Burnham Sports CC Won by 4 Runs
Match report
Second edge out promotion chasing Herongate by 4 Runs
In a tense game for promotion chasing Herongate, and relegation fighting Burnham, Herongate held the advantage twice before heroic Burnham fights back twice to win the game.
Burnham was asked to bat first and on a green wicket, Herongate made the most of the swing bowling conditions, removing Barthorpe and King by the 3rd over, then Neil Saunders (32) and S Sims (14) had a small partnership of 32 but after Sims departed wickets continued to fall at a steady pace until Burnham were 75-6. The the first fight back occured when David may (54no)and Steve Reece-Evans (20) came together to form a crucial partnership of 60 for the 7th wicket and with David May carrying his bat to the end ensured Burnham had a decent total of 158 to defend.
In reply Herongate started well with G Stock smashing 61 off the first 15 overs they were 70 without loss, yet again the match was turned on its head, when Roger Perrin 12-2-38-2 removed G Stock when he was caught at mid-off by Steve Sims then the character of the pitch seemed to change when Greg Campion 12-5-40-3, found some sharp turn and had a period of 5 overs 4 maidens 3 wickets for 1 run, Herongate quickly declined to 89 for 5 with David May 12-4-25-2 putting in a vital spell of away swing and off spin still further reduced Herongate, but a problem was going to occur with the regular bowlers bowled out, it was left to Steve Sims 6-0-37-2 and David Gamble 3-0-6-0 to see Burnham home and bowling tight enough for Herongate to fall short of Burnhams total in their 45 overs.
This was a marvellous team effort from everyone and a nice result to carry us onto the last 3 games of the season.
Next week we're away to Eastwood and after this result should look forward to the game.
