Match report
Burnham old guard smash Stock
Outstanding performances from George Rice and Ed King ensure Burnham seconds extend their unbeaten run to 4 matches
Stock batted first and were soon in trouble with Gerorge Rice 11-2-42-5 and supported by Roger Perrin 12-6-17-1 soon had the home team in trouble, with George making the most of the lift, he and Roger had 3 batsmen back in the hut before having 6 runs on the board. It was a position Stock could not fully recover from, despite a couple of small paternerships they kept losing wickets in mini collapses and George got his fiver at the fall of the sixth wicket George was quoted "the pitch is full of snakes" and supported by stand in keeper D May who snaffled 3 catches behind the stumps, it was left for Greg Campion fresh from his 6 wicket haul from OC's last week to take the last 3 wickets for 35 runs supported by Jack Silvester 6-1-20-1, Stock was all out for 135 in the 40th over.
Burnham needed 136 in 49 overs but did not start well when Neil Saunders got a beauty the ball nipping in between bat and pad first ball, and when John Barthorpe departed for 7 Burnham were 17-2, but a stand of 65 for the 3rd wicket between Ed King 58 not out and Steve Sims 37 wrestled the initive away from Stock, Ed showing some restraint at first to play himself in began to come more assured and started to drive some nice straight 4's and also the inevitable six over at long on, supported by Steve Sims showing some form at last cut majestically time and again to the point boundary. Even when Simsy departed Steve Reece Evans 18 not out supported Ed home with a stand of 54 for the 4th wicket with what could be best described as baseball swings, whatever the ball still disappeared to the boundary and Burnham romped home with 7 wickets to spare.
4 wins in a row and we seem to be the form team at present lifting us clear of the relegation zone but we entertain the leaders next week Herongate, I suggest a nice big boundary something out of their comfort zone so they have to work for their runs.
