Match report Seconds win tight encounter against Gt Burstead

Gt. Burstead won the toss and elected to field, strange decision as they had only 9 players.
Burnham got off to a reasonable start reaching 58-2 with Ashley Wade (35) being the main contribuitor, despite the ball swinging and the slow pitch inducing alot of ariel shots, players got in N Saunders (18) and D Bridge (18) but never felt comfortable on the slow pitch, and with Stratford 4-24 bowling well for the opposition Burnham slumped to 102-7.Then for the first time this year the tail wagged, Graeme Kilduff (20no) amd Greg Campion (18) added a crucial 8th wicket partnership of 36 supported by R Perrin and D Gamble Burnham was bowled out for a respectable 160 in the 42nd over.

Gt Burstead reply was steady with 48 overs avaliable had 160 to chase, but only 8 wickets available to them. The Burnham bowling was tight with Roger Perrin 12-1-32-1 and Tom Stephens 12-3-43-1 giving mnothing away, Gt Burstead progress was slow and with David Bridge 12-4-23-0 keeping the run rate less than 2 an over but had no luck despite beating the bat numerous times, it left the situation perfect for Greg Campion 10-2-33-4 to make inroads into the Gt Burstead batting as they tried to attack on a turning pitch. Eventually the runrate went away form Burstead needing 21 on the last over fell 13 runs short.
An excellent performance by the Seconds to defend 160 and grind out a win to keep their promotion hopes very much alive, they now visit Danbury next week in their persuit of promotion.
