Burnham Sports CC 1st XI v Writtle on Sat 14 Aug 2010 at 1.30pm
Burnham Sports CC Won by 22 runs
Match report
Jamie Hamilton excelled with bat and ball as Burnham Sports kept up their promotion push with a tense 22-run win over Writtle at Millfields.
Hamilton, the skipper, hit a superb 81 and then grabbed four for 22. For good measure, he took three catches - including two caught and bowled - as his team chalked up their sixth succesiive win.
"I was especially satisfied with my batting because the damp conditions did not make it easy," Hamilton said. "We were not at our best on the day but six wins on the bounce speaks for itself and promotion is pretty much in our hands with a couple of games to go. It's been a great team effort with everyone playing their part."
The only thing Hamilton did wrong all day was lose the toss, although it looked like that might be important as Sports slipped to 49 for three with a third of their allotted 45 overs gone.
However, Hamilton and Paul Green (37) turned things around with a determined partnership of 85.
Once Green had been deceived by Williamson, Hamilton kept up his polished display before holding out to deep mid-on. He hit a six and 13 fours as Sports closed on 192 for eight.
Writtle were in contention all the way after tea but Andy Stephens and Hamilton combined to tilt the things in the home side's favour.
Stephens, who claimed the first three wickets, finished with four for 41 and also claimed a run out - hitting one stump from cover. emaining.
Bt it was Hamilton's day and, fittingly, he finished things off by taking the last two wickets in successive balls wirth four overs left - after the visiting side had reached 167 for seven with six overs remaining. Pressure told, though, and they they finished 170 all out.
