Match report Familiar deficiences led to Burnham Sports suffering a barren weekend as they reached the halfway stage of a stop-start season.
The 1st XI travelled to Chignal and lost by five wickets - paying the price for some inexcusable batting in the last quarter of their innings.
Sports looked like posting a reasonable tally in the first division fixture after reaching 142 for four in the 34th over but, little more than five overs later, were 157 all out.
Ali Allchin and Robin Whittaker were both needlessly run out, while some of their tail-end team-mates played shots that they will not care to remember.
Joel Whittaker (40) and Jamie Hamilton (25) provided the highlight of the innings with a threatening third-wicket stand of 57.
Both succumbed to off-spinner Faz Rahman, who went on to finish with figures of five for 31.
Sports knew that they had posted a total at least 50 short of what was required but, to their credit, came back fighting after tea and reduced the home side to 75 for five.
Allchin (three for 37) and Andy Stephens (two for 23) did the damage, with Allchin, in particular, impressing with his pace and control.
The 18-year-old could not budge Tom Bird (60 not out) or the stubborn Matt Porter (19 not out), though, as Chignal eventually won with someything to spare.
