Burnham Sports CC 1st XI v Galleywood on Sat 05 Jul 2008 at 1.30pm
Burnham Sports CC Lost By 5 Wickets
Match report
A brilliant maiden century by Jamie Hamilton was in vain as wasteful Burnham Sports lost by five wickets to Galleywood in their T.Rippon Mid-Essex League first division match at Millfield.
Hamilton, whose batting has flourished since taking over as captain this year, dispatched the ball to all parts on his way to 104. He hit 12 fours and three sixes - moving to three figures with a typically well-timed boundary through the offside.
The 23-year-old shared in a dashing second-wicket stand of 142 with Jalal Ahmed before the latter, having hit ten fours in a chanceless innings of 53, was adjudged to be run out.
At that staged Burnham had raced to 179 and, with 16 overs left and plenty of wickets in hand, had their eyes on a total approaching 300. However, once Hamilton was finally out, caught at mid-wicket, the innings lost all its momentum and they closed on 246 for eight.
Only Grant Smith (18) clicked among the middle order before Robin Whittaker hit a quick unbeaten 14 near the finish. Danny McIntyre (two for 50) and Blowers (two for 42) were among those who helped claw the visiting team back into contention.
After tea, Galleywood’s reputation for being a strong batting team was soon realised.
Openers Andy Reeve (45) and Matt Stallard (23) gave them a decent foundation, which Andy Stallard (77) and McIntyre (46 not out) duly built on.
Galleywood were 117 for two with 20 overs left but were unfazed by needing six and a half an over and eventually won with 14 balls to spare. Andy Stephens finished with two for 56 from his 12 overs, with Karl Barnes, Whittaker and Paul Green sharing the other wickets to fall.
Simon Turnnidge, deputising for Dominic Whittaker behind the stumps, did a fine job on what was his first-team debut.
