Match report Joel Whittaker shone with bat and ball as Burnham’s 1st XI bounced back to winning form with a workmanlike 34-run success over Broomfield in their T.Rippon Mid-Essex League Division 1 fixture.
Whittaker hit a fluent 45 to help Burnham finish on 237 for eight and then, for an encore, took four for 28 as Broomfield were dismissed for 203 with eight balls left.
The 23-year-old shared in a stand of 65 at almost a run per ball for the first wicket with Jalal Ahmed before edging a lifting delivery behind. He hit six fours and two sixes.
Jalal (36) and Jamie Hamilton (20) then added 43 in similarly brisk time before both fell in quick succession. Consolidation was provided by 16-year-old Ali Allchin, who hit a debut league half-century before being sixth out with the score on 185 in the 36th over. He hit six fours and a six.
Andy Stephens (22) and Robin Whitaker (16) kept the scorebook ticking over once he had departed but, after building such an excellent foundation, Sports were a little disappointed with their final tally.
In reply, Mishra (40) and Wright (37) kept Broomfield in the hunt but Whittaker, well supported by Stephens (three for 32), returned to finish what he had started. Brian Leech and Robin Whittaker each took a wicket, too, with the former also contributing a one-handed catch and a run out.
