Burnham Sports CC 1st XI v Hockley on Sat 17 May 2008 at 1.30pm
Match was Tied

Match report Jamie Hamilton led from the front as Burnham Sports and Hockley fought out a thrilling tie in their T.Rippon Mid-Essex League first division clash at Millfield.
Hamilton, captaining Sports for the first time in the absence of injured Dave Lucy, hit a superb 64 not and then bowled tightly at the end of a 45-over match that swung one way and then the other.
Hockley, chasing 197 to win, needed 15 off the last two overs with four wickets in hand and, then. ultimately three off the final ball bowled by Jalal Ahmed. The visiting scrambled a two courtesy of an inside edge down to fine leg.
Such a dramatic conclusion had seemed a million miles away earlier in the day - the game only going ahead after two morning inspections. The outfield was wet after a morning of drizzle but the pitch itself, while damp, was perfectly playable.
However, fluent run-scoring was never going to be easy given the conditions and Burnham struggled for early momentum after losing the toss and being invited to bat.
Paul Green (20), David Bridge (10), Joel Whitaker (19), Jalal Ahmed (27) and Grant Smith (14) all made starts but, at 101 for five after 30 overs with two new batsmen at the crease, Sports were on the backfoot.
Ali Allchin and Hamilton rose to the challenge in splendid fashion, putting on an unbroken stand of 95 to help their team close on a highly respectable 196 for five. Significantly, the last four overs yielded 41 runs.
Hamilton was the more dominant of the pair and reached his half-century with a six that just evaded the fielder at deep mid on. He hit one other maximum and four boundaries.
Allchin was good value for his unbeaten 23, playing with particular confidence off his legs.
After tea, Burnham kept their noses in front courtesy of tight opening spells by Karl Barnes (10-3-18-1) and Andy Stephens (10-3-30-1).
Hockley’s required run-rate rose to six runs per over but a third-wicket stand of 98 between Foster (47) and Martin Paige gave the visiting team the upper hand.
Paige (54) was in typically forceful mood and had just clicked into top gear when brilliantly caught on the boundary by Green - tumbling backwards with the ball behind him - at wide mid-wicket.
That effort breathed new belief into Burnham and seemed to inspire Hamilton (8-0-35-2) and Jalal (8-1-31-3) as the contest moved to its exciting denouement.
Given the cold, wet, gloomy conditions, both teams deserved a share of the spoils and, pleasingly, the fixture was played in an excellent spirit.
