Robin Whittaker scooped his best league bowling figures as Burnham Sports brushed aside Little Waltham by Six wickets at Millfield.
Whittaker has not enjoyed the rub of the green in early-season matches but the 17-year-old bounced back with a haul of four for 40 as Waltham were bundled out for 109 in the T.Rippon Mid-Essex League first division fixture.
The medium/fast bowler picked up two wickets in his first over - dismissing Farooq (17) and Thorogood (26) after the opening pair had been limited to 42 in just 17 overs. Once that duo had fallen, Waltham capitulated against a Burnham bowling attack that never looked like wavering.
Ali Allchin, another of the club’s teenagers, again bowled superbly (9.5-5-13-3) , while the experienced pair of Karl Barnes (7-1-24-2) and Andy Stephens (12-5-30-1) played their part. Stephens also took two good catches - one in the gully and one in the covers.
In reply, Burnham lost Grant Smith and Joel Whittaker early on before Paul Green and Jamie Hamilton (25) added 55 for the third wicket. Green (46) was the last to depart but, by that time, his team-mates were already savouring the prospect of a maximum 26-point haul.
Allchin hit the winning runs with a boundary through the leg side.
