Burnham Sports CC Lost By 28 Runs

Match report A careless batting display led to Burnham Sports losing by 28 runs away to Ekco Monarchs & Trojans.
Sports held the initiative for long periods in the Mid-Essex League first division fixture - racing to 56 without loss after earlier limiting Trojans to what should have been an inadequate 204 for nine. But, from that excellent position, they subsided to 176 all out with three overs left.
Grant Smith was the one blameless batsman, the opener hitting 78. He found the boundary 13 times with some of his straight drives, in particular, being a joy to watch.
Paul Green, who made 27, also emerged with credit.
Few of the other batsmen achieved anything to be proud of, with Jamie Hamilton, Joel Whitaker and Neil Saunders all being dismissed by full tosses. Blunt, an erratic off spinner, and James, a South African medium pacer, shared eight wickets between them.
Trojans had earlier shown much greater resolution at the crease after winning the toss and opting to bat. They did not reach three figures until the 30th over but almost doubled their tally in the final third of their innings. Ali Allchin (12-1-60-4) and Andy Stephens (12-2-41-2) were the pick of the visiting attack, with Allchin also contributing two catches and a run out.
