Very sad to relay that Alan Sayward, a long-term friend and fan of the club, has died after a short illness. 
Alan was 83 but much younger in outlook, despite disability and health issues. He was a familiar sight at our games, attending via his mobility scooter, and helped try and keep Fred upbeat.
Some of you will recall that Alan's son, Jason, was also a regular player in the past. 
Our loss is also Essex's as Alan rarely missed a day's cricket at the County Ground. He was a lovely man and our sympathy goes to his family.
