SPORTS BOOSTED BY NEW SPONSOR

01 Jul 2015

Burnham Sports cricket club are celebrating a new sponsorship deal that has enabled them to improve their equipment, ground and appearance.

Brooks Macdonald Group, a specialist wealth management group, has agreed to a sponsorship which has enabled the club able to invest in two new sight screens, groundwork, coaching equipment and fresh kit.

Neil Saunders, the club secretary, said: “We are hugely grateful to Brooks Macdonald for their generous support and sponsorship. Without it, we would be swimming against the tide financially.

“All local cricket clubs will recognise that these are tough times, with ground costs, match costs, umpire costs, administrative fees and the like needing to be settled on a weekly basis. Our match fees barely cover all this, so the help of a third party is invaluable.

“The timing could not be better, with the 1st XI now playing in the Premier League of the T Rippon League for the first time in more than a decade and only the second time in our history.

“We are extremely proud that a small club like ours is capable of playing in the highest of the 13 divisions and, with the help of Brooks Macdonald, we can now look the part, too.

“Unfortunately, it is unlikely to make scoring runs or taking wickets any easier, but we’d like to think this will be the start of a long and happy association with them.” "Brooks Macdonald has a long established history of supporting local sports clubs and school teams and we are delighted to sponsor Burnham Sports, as to help them improve their facilities," said Carey Shakespeare, head of group marketing. Dengie Hundred Round Table also made a donation to the club over the winter. “It was a lovely gesture by the Round Table, too,” Saunders said. “Everybody connected with the club would like this opportunity to express our gratitude.”

Burnham are always on the lookout for new recruits. Anybody interested in joining them should phone Neil on 01621 784182.
