SECONDS SAFE FROM RELEGATION

29 Aug 2011

A fine all round performance from the secondsof batting, bowling and fielding makes sure that we stay in Division 8 for Next Season.

Burnham batted first and with the strongest line up we've had all season made the most of the fair conditions with an opening stand of 65 between Steve Sims (28) and Grant Smith (36) with Grant in particular playing some nice cover drives, when Grant was dismissed and after a short rain break it was left for Ali Allchin (70no)again with controlled agressive shotplay supported by Neil Saunders (30) and Chris Rich (24no) to dominate the South Woodham bowling to amass a total of 218 for 5 in 43 overs.

In reply South Woodham faltered with Greg Campion 12-0-52-4 claiming 2 early victims supporetd by Roger Perrin 12-0-42-0, but then fought back with a  partership of 81 between M Stuart and J Royce which was finally brokenby a fine catch by Neil Saunders on the deep square leg boundary. That parternership was the only stand of substance with David May 7-0-17-5 producing a fine spell of swing bowling supported by Steve Sims 6-0-32-1 with some fine keeping from Neil Wade a close catch and a stumping off May's bowling and a fine sharp catch by Roger Perrin at extra cover, South Woodham quickly declined to 148 all out.

Only one match remains at Canvey who are still loooking for their first win this season lets hopefully we don't give them that pleasure.
