  • Chairman of the club, so I'd best not be too rude. Long-standing, long-suffering member who has been playing almost as long as Eddie King (and that's a mighty long time). Swears a lot. Used to bowl off a run of about 20 paces. I use the word 'run' loosely because Dave is not one to rush things, so it was more like an amble. As the years went by, Dave realised he could swing the ball off a much shorter run; and then a shorter run again. It's got to the point, now, where he just stands still and bowls. Bloody thing still swings a foot. In the not too distant future, it is not inconceivable that he will simply lie down and bowl. Dave was, of course, a Burnham fireman for 30 years and worked his way up to be chief fire officer. On numerous occasions he would be in action on the cricket field, only for his bleeper to go off - summoning him to an inferno somewhere in the Dengie. He's heard all the gags about the length of his hose and neglected pussies in need of rescuing. Wife Beryl is not one to moan about cricket getting in he way of a normal relationship, while daughter Kathryn, of course, has married cricket-obsessed Finny.
