  • Tall, skinny bloke who optimistically thinks that he will be in the winning team every week. Having Finny in the team can even this out. First played senior cricket for the club in 1979 under Fred Barker. Took 4-25 and we lost. The pattern for much of the future was instantly established! Became skipper himself in the late 80s/early 90s but spent 5 years at Terling after tiring of the antics of a team that would often include youthful versions of Barty, Mears, Shipton and Winch. Years of nagging by Finny lured him back and he's not come close to departing for a second time, although age is catching up with (barely bowled in 2012 because of a frozen shoulder and had bowel surgery in February, 2013). Took 9-32 against Rayleigh in the league in 2010 but 94 remains his top score. As a youngster, he played for Essex colts for five years under the captaincy of Nasser Hussain and was lucky enough to tour Barbados/Australia. Famously, in a Burnham colts' Under 13 game against Witham, he scored 25 in his team's all out tally of 29. There were 4 extras. Stevo was batting number 4 that day and came in third ball !! Then, he bowled 4 overs, 4 maidens and took 4 wickets. Burnham lost by 6 wickets!  Often been told that he looks like Ben Burgess, Steve Andrews and David Tennant. Cannot see it myself.
