  • Rumour has it that James Robert Hamilton (JR to those of us who can remember the dastardly bad guy in Dallas) is going to have another stab at captaincy in 2014 after delicate negotiations with Finbar Saunders. Apparently a deal is being thrashed out (his agent is demanding lots of cash/sexual promises). Jamie joined exalted names such as Jamie Kyd, Fred Barker, Andy Stephens, Paul Stanton and Dave Lucy when agreeing to take over as 1st XI captain at the start of the 2008 season. He took to it it like a duck to water - realising that delegation is everything. Finny got his wickets ready and collected subs, Greeno was in charge of tactics, Stevo filled in scorebook/scorecard/made up his press quotes/organised tea rota. This left Jamie free to concentrate on the topics that really troubled him, such as anal bleaching (he opened his heart at Ekco), hairy dots (frequently discussed) and just how dirty Lily Allen might be (Galleywood away). His concise pre-match e-mails became the stuff of legend and rarely failed to rally his troops. He runs fast, scores fast and drives fast. He could bowl fast, too, if he could ever be bothered to take a decent run up. Not that it prevented him winning the bowling averages in 2009. 'Dodgy bat coming in, throw me the ball, it's time I had a bowl'. Oh yes, he had captaincy  well and truly cracked. Gave up the captaincy in 2011 (people began to rumble him) but who can blame him for returning? After all, there are more bowling averages to be scooped.
