Terling 1st v Burnham Sports CC 1st XI on Sat 03 Aug 2019 at 1pm
Burnham Sports CC Won By 43 Runs

Match report Burnham Sports 1st XI earned a hard-fought 43-run victory away at Terling on Saturday, further cementing their position in the promotion places in T-Rippon Division 2.
After being put into bat first by Terling, Paul Green saw Sports get off to a fast start, scoring 26 before being caught off the bowling of O Dawson, who claimed 2 wickets for Terling.
However, on a tricky pitch with uneven bounce, Terling managed to stem the flow of runs, as Burnham’s batsmen struggled to adapt to the conditions. Burnham’s second opening batsman, Neil Saunders, battled hard for 19, before being dismissed by A Twin, who also claimed 2 wickets.
It wasn’t until the in-form Jamie Hamilton came to the crease that the shackles started to release. Hamilton, who hit six boundaries on his way to 33, formed a valuable 40-run partnership with Jack Silvester (15) to see Burnham pass 100 runs with 10 overs left.
After the pair were dismissed, captain Tom Silvester (13*) crucially added another 20 runs with Neil Wade (12), to bring Sports to a final first innings total of 138 for 9 after the full 45 overs.
Defending a small total, Robin Whittaker got Burnham off to a perfect start, dismissing Terling’s Govender with the first ball of the innings.
The home side, however, managed to form some key partnerships to stabilise their innings, as Wilding (18), Jagota (24) and Dawson (20) saw them climb to 58 for 3 after 22 overs, seemingly setting them up for victory.
The game turned on its head, though, when Fuad Ahmed and Jack Silvester came on to bowl for Burnham. Silvester bowled very consistently to put Terling under pressure, and his patience paid off as he claimed 3 wickets, conceding only 21 runs after 10 overs. Ahmed also got in on the act, with 2 wickets of his own from 6 overs, conceding just 14 runs.
With Terling reeling on 95 for 9, victory seemed inevitable for Burnham and captain Tom Silvester claimed the final wicket to seal the win for Burnham in the 37th over.
The win sees Sports further secure their position in second place in the division, and they are now 36 points ahead of third placed Eastwood. However, division leaders Noak Hill seem to be out of reach, 24 points ahead.
Next Saturday, Sports face Woodham Mortimer at home.
