Burnham Sports CC 1st XI v Ingatestone on Sat 14 Jun 2014 at 1.30
Burnham Sports CC Won by 4 WICKETS

Match report Grant Smith will be a significant absentee when Burnham Sports play away to promotion rivals Goresbrook on Saturday.
The middle-order batsman, who has scored almost 4,000 league runs in the past decade, suffered a hamstring injury while fielding in the covers during his team’s four-wicket win over Ingatestone last Saturday - a victory which consolidated top sport for Sports in the T.Rippon Mid-Essex League first division.
On the plus side, though, Burnham will welcome back 19-year-old Fuad Ahmed, who has missed recent matches while studying for exams.
Goresbrook, newcomers to the T.Rippon League this year after being prolific in the Shepherd Neame, began this season as hot favourites to win the first division title.
They have gained several commanding victories but ill fortune with the weather, plus a surprise one-wicket defeat against Rankins, means that they are playing catch-up.
“I don’t think anybody would dispute that they are still favourites and I’m sure they will be eager to make a point,” Andy Stephens, of Burnham, said. “We’ve heard various rumours but must concentrate on our own performances, rather than worry about theirs.
“It will be a good test of exactly where we are and what we are capable of.”
Sports have won five of their six games this term - their one defeat was when badly depleted - and beat Ingatestone without being at their best.
The away team chose to bat after winning the toss and took advantage of some uncharacteristically loose bowling, rattling up 237 for nine from their allotted 45 overs.
Andy Stephens (12-0-42-3) and Robin Whittaker (12-2-44-2) took the first five wickets and fared well enough but the other 21 overs disappeared for 143.
In reply, Sports looked in a bit of bother after quickly losing Neil Saunders and Jamie Hamilton but then Sayeid Ahmed and Whittaker transformed the game, putting on more than 160 for the third wicket in rapid time.
The duo were both in cavalier mood and were particularly ruthless against anything pitched short - hammering 33 boundaries between them.
It looked like the pair might see Sports home without further loss but Sayeid was caught behind for 75, and then Whittaker perished 11 short of what would have been a deserved century.
Sports lost a couple of other wickets, too, but secured victory with ten overs to spare.
Meanwhile, Burnham’s 2nd XI were beating East Hanningfield & Great Burstead by 114 runs in their division nine encounter.
Burnham thrived after batting first, being dismissed for 240 with a ball of their innings remaining.
Steve Sims (58) led the way, with JT Harris (38), Steve Rees-Evans (26) and Ed King (24) being the other main contributors.
The home team crumbled to 126 all out, undone mainly by Greg Campion (12-2-26-3) and Roger Perrin (12-2-29-3). Harris, Chris Rich and David May shared the other wickets to fall.
Victory has lifted Burnham to fourth in the table. This Saturday they play at home to their Broomfield counterparts (start 1.30pm), who are third.
