Bentley v Burnham Sports CC 1st XI on Sat 25 Aug 2012 at 1pm (earlier possible)
Match was Abandoned
Match report
Burnham Sports 2nd XI all but assured themselves safety by beating Stock by 61 runs at Millfields.
Only a freak set of results this Saturday - the final day of the league season - will result in Sports being relegated from T.Rippon Mid-Essex League division eight. Two points from their match away to Great Wakering, from a possible 26, will ensure they are not demoted.
Sports had to beat the elements, as well as Stock, last Saturday.
The fixture was in peril after rain in the morning and again came close to being called off after another downpour after tea.
However, the patience of both sets of players - plus Sports' quick-drying pitch - enabled the game to be completed.
Put into bat first on a damp surface, Sports accumulated 195 for four from their 40 overs.
Grant Smith, continuing his excellent spell of form, hit a dozen fours in a polished 61.
Sayeid Ahmed made an unbeaten 48, while Andy Stephens, who came in with 15 overs remaining, gave the innings late impetus with a brisk 65. He hit two sixes and seven fours.
In reply, Stock were always struggling to keep up with the run-rate.
Roger Perrin (12-3-34-2) swung the ball throughout, while skipper David May (8-0-26-4) proved typically potent. Greg Campion (two for 14) also got in on the act.
Neil Wade capped a fine display behind the stumps with three stumpings.
Burnham's 1st XI have endured a frustrating season - summed up by their match away to Bentley being ruined by the weather.
Sports had raced to 178 for four from 30 overs when their innings was halted by a prolonged downpour.
Ali Allchin had ridden his luck to reach 64 not out, with Robin Whittaker also undefeated on 31. Another highlight was Jalal Ahmed scoring 18 from his first four balls before departing.
Bentley were 21 for one after three overs when more rain forced the players off for a final time.
Robin Whittaker, Burnham's outstanding bowler this term, took the wicket to fall with help of Jamie Hamilton in the slip cauldron.
