Match report Seconds overwhelm Rayliegh

In a great team effort Burhnam II beat Rayliegh III by 40 Runs

Rayliegh won the toss and with showers threatening unsuprisingly put Burnham in.

And their decision soon seemed justified on a uneven pitch with both openers A Wade (0) and N Saunders (6) soon removed and Burnham 17-2, then a partnerships of 45 between Rob Layzell (38) and Faud Ahmed (26) and 36 between F Ahmed and top scorer Ed King (42) soon stedied the Burnham innings, despite coming off 3 times for rain interruptions and the overs being reduced to 40 per side, then a late flourish from Simon Turnnidge (10) and Brian Leech (15) ensured Burnhams 170 for 9 in 40 was a challenging total.

In reply Rayliegh's innings's soon fell apart with the ball going pear shaped (due to the rain) all that Tom Stephens 2-18, Roger Perrin 1-27 and Faud Ahmed 2-11 had to do is bowl straight and let the ball do the rest, and that's what they did and had Rayliegh 25 for 5, supported superbly in the outfield by Ashley Wade, 2 catches and 1 run out and Neil Saunders 1 run out, ensured the pressure never came off Rayliegh and with the pitch drying Greg Campion 3-14 got some turn out of the pitch, mopped up the tail to make sure Burnham had full bowling points.

Next week Burnham take on Danbury at home in the continuing chase for promotion
