Match report Burnham Sports 1st XI suffered a disastrous batting collapse on Saturday as they lost to Basildon and Pitsea. Meanwhile, the seconds stretched their winning run to six games with a convincing win away to Rankins 2s.
After winning the toss at Millfields and electing to bowl, Burnham dismissed the Basildon side for 81 and a victory against their closest rivals in the league looked on the cards. However, Burnham were missing three top order batsmen amongst five absentees and there was little resistance to prevent the visitors taking regular wickets. The bowling of Bedford (8.1-0-25-5) and Clarke-Irons (10-5-8-3) did the damage for Basildon as Burnham were bowled out for just 68 to lose by 13 runs.
Earlier, Sports had bowled excellently to restrict Basildon to just 81, Robin Whittaker (10-1-24-3) and David Bridge (10-2-26-3) were the pick of the bowlers along with the economical Matthew Mears (10-5-9-2).
