Stock 1st v Burnham Sports CC 1st XI on Sat 18 Jun 2016 at 13:00
Burnham Sports CC Won by 9 runs

Match report An extraordinary flurry of late wickets clinched a 9-run victory for Burnham Sports’ 1st XI in a close encounter away at Stock on Saturday in their T-Rippon Division One fixture.
With 6 overs remaining, chasing Burnham’s score of 229, a win for Stock seemed on the cards; half-centuries from Matt Gamby (55) and Sam Clark (64) had led an incredible fight-back after a 5 wicket haul from Tom Silvester (5 for 51) had left the home side reeling.
It wasn’t until Clark was trapped LBW from the bowling of David Bridge (2 for 34) that the momentum shifted to Sports and a thrilling finish was in store.
Two wickets from Joel Whittaker (2 for 20) and a second wicket for Bridge put Sports firmly in the driving seat. With just one over of the game to go, Stock needed their final batting pair to score ten runs to secure their second win of the season.
The pressure on the pair eventually tolled and, after three dot balls from captain Whittaker, the Stock batsmen were forced into going for an impossible run – Whittaker comfortably ran out the number eleven Griffiths to bowl Stock out for 220, just 9 runs short of Burnham’s total, and seal the win for Burnham.
After the game, Whittaker commented, “Today was a very tough game, credit to Stock for really giving it a go in difficult conditions. I had them odds-on favourites at one stage to get over the line, but we showed a lot of fight to come back and bowl them out.”
On bowling out all seven teams they have played so far this season, he said, “I’m so pleased at the application our bowlers have shown. We have such great depth in our bowling attack, so if someone can’t take a wicket we can always rely on another to do the damage. Let’s just hope this continues throughout the season.”
Earlier, it looked as if it just wasn’t to be for the visitors; Stock won the toss and sent Burnham in to bat in difficult conditions. This proved to be a good call, as they claimed two early Burnham wickets.
However, opener Paul Green (47) and captain Whittaker, who hit four 6s on his way to 67, led Sports’ recovery. Jamie Hamilton and Neil Saunders both scored 20, whilst Robin Whittaker chipped in with 19, to help Sports reach their total of 229 for 8 after 45 overs.
