Match report Meanwhile, the second team continued their winning run away to Old Chelmsfordians thirds. Batting first, Burnham maintained their recent form with the bat and finished with a promising 226-8 off 40 overs. Sayeid Ahmed made 62 and was assisted by 48 from Jack Shipton and 44 from Steve Sims. Chris Rich made 21 not out later in the innings to propel Sports past 200. For the home side Lodge claimed 4 wickets and Cass took 3, but they could not restrict Burnham’s run rate.
In response several OCs batsmen got in but no-one went on to make a big score, with six players making double figures. Robson top scored with 24 not out towards the end of the innings.
The bowling of Roger Perrin, Brian Leech and Ahmed proved effective for Sports as they restricted the Old Chelmsfordians’ score in the early part of the game. Each bowled 9 overs with an economy rate of less than 3 runs per over and between them they claimed 5 wickets to set Burnham up for another victory. Neil Saunders, David May and Steve Rees-Evans claimed a wicket each as the home side finished on 129-8 after 40 overs, 97 runs short of the Burnham total.
This week the seconds face East Hanningfield at home.
