Match report The Second XI eased to victory at home to Hornchurch Athletic thirds. Batting first, Burnham accumulated 224 from their 40 over allocation. Neil Saunders (46) and Sayeid Ahmed (51) opened the batting and got off to a solid start. After a losing a few quick wickets the incredibly consistent David May made a fine 56 not out. May has not been out in six of his nine innings this season and now has 234 runs at an average of 78. Maddams bowled well for Hornchurch, taking three wickets from his eight overs; he was assisted by Blowers and Gilham who took two wickets apiece.
In reply, the accurate bowling of Roger Perrin (1-25) and Brian Leech (1-18) restricted the Hornchurch batsmen in the first 18 overs. Sayeid Ahmed then came on to do the real damage, claiming four wickets. Wicketkeeper Jack Shipton claimed a stumping and took a diving catch to back up the bowlers, and youngster Daniel Hand fielded superbly throughout.
Next week, the second team are way to Old Chelmsfordians III; in the reverse fixture, Sports managed to beat them by 5 wickets.
