Match report Neil Saunders hit a determined 66 as Burnham Sports 2nd Xi beat East Hanningfield & Great Burstead by 19 runs at Millfields.
Opening batsman Saunders began cautiously before upping the tempo later in the innings in the company of Brian Leech, who finished unbeaten on 40.
Chris Rich (27), Steve Sims (21) and Ed King (14) also chipped in as Burnham compiled 177 for five from their 45 overs in the division nine contest.
That tally was always going to take some getting under challenging conditions, with Roger Perrin (12-2-26-1) and Leech (12-5-26-2) keeping their side in the driving seat.
The visiting team belatedly found some momentum once that pair had finished their spells but Greg Campion (four for 44) ensured there was no escape for them.
Burnham’s 2nd Xi have climbed up to fourth in the table but, with only two games left, promotion is beyond them. This week, they travel away to their Broomfield counterparts.
