Burnham Sports CC 1st XI v Rettendon on Sat 17 Aug 2013 at 1.00
Burnham Sports CC Lost By 34 Runs

Match report Paul Green will miss relegation-threatened Burnham Sports’s final two matches of the season after suffering a broken finger.
Green has been playing in discomfort for several weeks, including when hitting a match-winning 74 against Little Waltham the week before last.
A belated visit to hospital confirmed the fracture and worse - that he needs corrective surgery which will cut short his season.Despite his injury, Green
played in Burnham’s latest T.Rippon Mid-Essex League first division clash at home to Rettendon, which they lost by 34 runs.
Jamie Hamilton (four for 34), Robin Whittaker (three for 46), Fuad Ahmed (two for 34) and Green (one for 15) combined well as Rettendon were dismissed for 174 in the 43rd over.
The visiting team were, as often the case, were indebted to Huntingdon, who hit 11 fours and two sixes on his way to making 77.
Sports made a decent start in reply courtesy of Sayeid Ahmed (19) and his younger, brother, Fuad (21).
The home side then lost five wickets in quick succession before Hamilton (27) and Green (27 not out) threatened to turn things around.
It was not to be, though, with Herbert(five for 21) proving their destroyer.
“We created opportuntites to win the game but, unfortunately, could not take them,” Hamilton said. “It wasn’t an easy pitch to bat on but it was still disappointing not to be able to get 171 as we batted all the way down to No 11.”
Meanwhile, the 2nd team were down to the bare bones because of absent players and paid the price - losing by 75 runs away to Rayleigh.
Put into bat, Rayleigh were initially contained by Roger Perrin (12-3-29-0 and Andy Stephens 12-2-40-2). The latter was able to bowl properly, albeit at a reduced speed, for the first time in almost 16 months because of a shoulder problem.
Once Perrin and Stephens had finished, though, Rayleigh, with wickets in hand, found run-scoring easier and finished with 235 for five.
That was always going to be challenging given the limited resources that Sports had and they ended up making 159 in reply.
The highlight of their innings was a sixth-qicket stand of 57 between Roger Perrin and new recruit Tony Day. Perin, enjoying an excellent season with the bat, scored the bulk of those runs.
The 1st XI may have to win both of their final games to avoid relegation but the permutations are so varied that it is possible that they could lose both and still stay up.
“Both are final matches are winnable and that’s what we have got to achieve,” Hamilton said. “I don’t want to be relying on other teams doing us favours.”
The 2nd XI travel to Old Chelmsfordians in a division eight basement battle. Anything other than a win for Burnham will almost certainly mean that they are relegated.
