Old Chelmsfordians III v Burnham Sports CC 2nd XI on Sat 02 Jun 2012 at 1.30pm
Burnham Sports CC Lost by 4 wickets
Match report
Under a Dickens inspired bleak sky, Burnham 2nd's travelled to Old Chelmsfordian's and continued their poor start with their 3rd loss on the spin. "Heaven knows i'm miserable know" said David May, Burnhams Captain. Stop me if you think you've heard this one before but Burnham lost the toss and were inserted into bat on a slow track. Steve Sims (9) & Neil Wade (8) opened up and made a quick start, both players hitting early boundaries. "I started something i couldn't finish" said Sims as he made his way back after being bowled by Brown.
Fuad Ahmed making his first appearance of the season slotted smoothly in the team like a Hand in Glove made a steady 16. Tom Silvester batted at 4 & unfortunately This Charming Man scored his third duck of the season. Captain May was run out for 6 attempting an impossible 2nd run and was out by yards "This joke isn't funny anymore" he said trudging back. Ed King hit a quickfire 14 but was bowled attempting another big hit, Well I Wonder if he can bat any other way. Steve!Reece Evans (6) came and went. Tony Revell didn't trouble the scorers. With the help of 'Bigmouth strikes again' Simon Turnnidge (21) Burnham limped TO 95 all out.Burnham's overall batting is Still Ill.
Chasing only 95 should have been a comfortable affair but Burnham made it tough for Oc's. Fuad Ahmed (12-2-33-1) bowling with heat directly from Devils Kitchen caused uncomfortable moments for the Oc's openers. But it was Roger Perrin (12-1-22-3) who took the first 3 wickets, This Handsome Devil bowling his gentle medium pace suited to this slow wickets caused problems all throughout his spell for the batsman. David May (7-1-11-2) chipped in with 2 wickets. But with only 95 to chase it was all too little to late. Oc's hitting the winning runs in the 39th over. Burnham 2nd's will try to get their season started with a home game against Eastwood on Saturday. There is a light that never goes out!
